EVERYONE NEEDS - Boyfriend Jeans
I love wearing denim and for me it is sacred. I know the washes and the cuts that I like, and I don't deviate. So I've been slowly shaking my head from side to side at the 'Mom jean' and the 'shark attack jean' (I think only I call them this, but you know what I mean), whilst keeping my eye out for a comfy mid-rise boyfriend jean. It took a while but I found the holy grail.
As usual I've illustrated my chosen item on three diverse models. I often make these up but this time I decided on three real people; model Jillian Mercado, yoga teacher Jessamyn and photographer Jess Siggers. It was so enjoyable to look through their gorgeous Instagram feeds, work out their personal style and then illustrate them all in the same pair of jeans.
As well as creating illustrations, I've had the garment photographed on me - 41 years old, 5'4 and a UK size 14. It's all very well seeing the garment on a gorgeous model on the Zara website, but look at the length of her legs! Not so easy to shop from when you're vertically challenged.
With this blog I used to only feature brands that went beyond a UK 16 but it was getting harder and harder to find good product with a wide ranges of sizes (that says it all, right?), so I'm hoping that by creating great diverse fashion imagery that brands will realise they need to cater for more people. These jeans are from Zara and I'm wearing an XXL size 16 in Malibu Blue. They do hang off me, but the 14 (my usual size) was just a bit neat at the waist.
I'm wearing some old favourites pieces of mine along with them here. My rose gold flats from La Paire (no longer trading, unfortunately), kimono from Monsoon, my embroidered top from Nomads Clothing and a necklace from Anthropologie. I used to design for Nomads and this top was one of my favourites that I created for the brand. I hand drew the embroidery too so it's quite nice to feature it on here, it's gone full circle from drawing to garment to appearing on an illustrated blog!
I'd love to hear what you think of this post so do leave a comment below. I'm especially interested to hear of people you'd love me to feature in my illustrations or of items you'd like to see me feature.
Thanks for reading.
